3M 425 uses a soft aluminum foil backing with pressure-sensitive acrylic adhesive. It is used in industrial sealing, seaming, masking and heat-reflecting applications.
Construction and application fit
The foil backing conforms around edges and provides a reflective surface. Selection should follow the job: a foil splice, a masked area and an appliance seam involve different handling and exposure requirements. The 427 option includes a release liner when the process calls for linered foil.
Selection and validation
Check the surface finish, cleanliness, overlap and edge lift on representative parts. Where heat is involved, record the exposure temperature and duration for the full assembly. Follow the current manufacturer application guidance rather than using a generic foil-tape rating.
